Product Lifecycle Management

Our staff has helped our clients bridge the gap between engineering and IT so that the product development lifecycle has the proper engineering standards and requirements and the IT tools support those requirements.  Our systems engineers have helped our clients develop automated workflows for product approval and routing.  Of particular note is the way 2D and 3D models are handled in federal contracting.  To be efficient, procurement, engineering, management, and IT need to work together to enable engineering model submission and reuse during detailed modeling, simulation, and analysis.

Enterprise Systems Engineering

Enterprise Architecture

Freedom helps its clients ensure that their information practices and IT resources work together to effectively support long- and short-term business objectives. By utilizing enterprise architecture methodologies and applying knowledge of best practices and standards, Freedom offers scalable, enterprise-ready solutions ensuring that information is organized, protected and ready to use.  We can provide FEAC and DODAF certified Enterprise Architects to supplement our client’s staff.  These EA’s are complete with real world experience from engineering and program management so they can easily demonstrate how EA can be used to help program’s operate efficiently in today’s cost-constrained environment.

Systems Engineering

Freedom’s systems engineers help our clients identify high level architecture requirements, then systematically decompose those into lower level requirements.  We have helped large federal agencies record and track agency level architecture requirements all the way down to functional requirements of subsystems.  We help our clients navigate the upward slope of the Systems Engineering “V” by helping to plan and conduct major design reviews verifying the system design meets the documented requirements.  With a strong focus on systems engineering tools and an IT-savvy engineering staff, we help organizations manage large-scale projects, designed with efficiency.

With so many competing tools and applications for engineers and IT professionals to chose from, we believe the focus should be on the transportability of the data itself.  We tend to be a tool-agnostic, data-centric team.  To ensure that an organization is not bound by one vendor or one technology for the life of the program, we help our clients focus on how the data is architected so it can be transferred from designer, to developer, to customer, to operator.

Enterprise Information Management (EIM) and the Information Manager

Information Management concerns itself with employing strategies and technologies in the information technology industry to capture, manage, store, preserve, and deliver content imported into or generated from within an organization’s course of operation. This includes providing both internal and external organizational access control to this content.

Freedom’s Information Managers (IMs) ensure that critical information is well-organized and presented, and is available to authorized personnel. IMs add significant value to an organization as they effectively implement and manage a seamless collaborative environment by establishing best practices across multiple organizational levels and sites. Freedom’s integrated team of IMs establish an information conduit that can be managed through these multiple organizations with the skills to maximize the effective use of technology

Information Management Tools

In order to communicate and protect a client’s data throughout its lifecycle, an IM will use the tools that the client has chosen as the best means to manage their information. Freedom’s IMs are not limited by any IT product or suite of tools. Rather, IMs train on tools not already in their realm of proficiency in order to support the client. Examples of tools that IMs are already trained on include Windchill, Confluence, Cradle, Active Risk Manager (ARM),Vignette Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Solutions, Vignette Portal, Vignette Builder, Vignette Review Item Discrepancy (RID) Tool, Microsoft SharePoint, and NexPrise Collaboration Suite.

Information Management is valuable because it:

  • Provides a tool usage expert to local teams – an expert backed up by the nationwide IM network
  • Ensures compliance with IT security requirements and recognizes the need for the collection and maintenance of official records
  • Establishes and maintains best practices utilization standards across an entire program
  • Works closely with tool development teams, assisting with the installation, set-up and training of new or updated applications
  • Captures requirements for additional capability on behalf of program and project management, and communicates those requirements to the developers.

Program Analysis and Support

Freedom provides complete programmatic, information, and data analyses that are helping government agencies and commercial partners gain insight and knowledge to support effective decision making and help ensure program success.

Survey and Analysis Tools

Our customized survey and analysis tools collect demographic and opinion data based on user experiences during outreach events. The tools aggregate the data, exporting routine and custom reports with presentation-ready statistical imagery. Freedom analysts support all reporting activities for periodic and special management reviews. The tools consistently reveal insightful public perceptions, which allow our analysts to suggest recommendations for messaging adjustments.

Transition Planning

We provided strategic policy insights for government agencies transitioning between major programs. Our analysts evaluate data repositories, leveraging existing data sources when possible and recommending new collection methods as necessary. We analyze personnel, property, infrastructure, and facility resources, supporting reviews and management decision boards to determine effective and responsible reuse and disposition across programs. Our analysts also develop, edit and provide configuration management for implementation plans.

Contingency Action Planning

In the midst of testing or operations mishaps, security breaches, and natural disaster events, agencies must be ready to respond to and mitigate situations in order to resolve and prevent escalation as soon as possible. Our analysts research and develop comprehensive contingency action plans to help government agencies better respond to unfortunate events that affect their personnel, hardware, facilities or infrastructure. Freedom-developed contingency action plans have served as models for other government implementation plans.

Specialized Software Products

Large-scale commercial enterprise tools are very effective at meeting the common software needs of an organization. These tools enable standardization in how information is collected, tagged, stored, organized, and retrieved. These tools also can be effective in establishing and managing enhanced security capabilities. Our Information Management/Information Assurance business unit is very adept at helping organizations maximize their investment and facilitate adoption by the larger user community. But sometimes that’s not enough.

Ask your customers to be part of the solution, and don’t view them as part of the problem.
— Alan Weiss, Author "Million Dollar Consulting"

Sometimes there isn’t an off-the-shelf solution that fulfills your company’s specific requirements. Your data needs to be managed with specific analysis, processed by specific functions, integrated with other specific data. You have a custom workflow in which your information needs to pass. You have custom reporting needs that must be integrated with other products. You need a niche solution.

Our experienced staff has developed both ends of this spectrum, from enterprise to niche. We understand the cost trade-offs of make or buy. For general software needs, we always recommend buy. But when the requirements are custom and mission is critical, we deliver an affordable, innovative solution that surpasses your expectations. We bring value, and never ask you to compromise your custom requirements. We can even ensure that our solution fits in nicely with your larger enterprise without compromising your security stance.

The backend database may be where the data is, but the user interface is what determines whether your user base uses the application or not. Our applications are built with an eye towards streamlined simple design that makes the user experience intuitive, reducing training costs, and yielding a lower total cost of ownership in the long run. It is more than just input and output. The application should be a tool in the hands of your users to accomplish the mission before them. Our staff understands that you may already have invested in specific software architecture or have a preference in what language your applications are built. With a diverse experience base, we can support many different development environments.

As an information systems company, we understand the real power of any database is not what you can put into it, but rather what extended-value you get out of it. Our database architects and developers work with our systems engineers to ensure the design is made with the end product in mind, from the beginning. This puts the focus of the system on achieving the mission. It also provides efficiency in the overall design. We then work back through the workflow to the data collection at the user interface, making sure the data flow is simple and streamlined and most importantly, understood by the user. Our team works with industry-leading databases like Oracle and MS SQL Server. And we have the staff to administer these databases. Our database administrators (DBAs) bring security and efficiency to the management of your system.

Pragmatic Processes

Our team has invested many hours in our software development processes. We know that robust, repeatable, dependable processes are the key to our software development lifecycle implementation success. We gather the requirements; analyze them, and then produce a preliminary design. We bring that design back to you with mock-ups and wireframes that allow you to envision the functionality of your application. With your approval, our team plans the work, then works the plan. We leverage the industry best practices for software configuration management with all of our development automatically stored and backed up. Our team is fluent in C#, ColdFusion, PHP, JAVA, Javascript, C++, just to mention a few.

Whatever your customized software developments needs are, we can help. And we can do it affordably.
